I read a recent article in the Economist that talked about a study done by researchers at Virginia Tech who discovered that drinking half a litre of water (2 cups) shortly before your meals actually helped promote weightloss in a randomised group of participants who were on reduced-calorie diets. It also helped them keep the weight off after they came off the diet. I suppose drinking 2 cups of water before you eat would most definitely take up lots of room in your stomach, allowing less room for food, and triggering satiety signals earlier. Not to mention help you reach that oft-encouraged 8 cups of water a day faster. I mean, that’s already 6 cups if you do it every meal! This seems to be the only research of it’s kind done so far, so we’ll see what follow up studies show. Check out the article for more details.
