What is with Apple’s product names?!?

The iPad? Seriously? After the iTouch? Whats next? The iSex? Kidding. But only slightly. I’m sure I’ll be told to get my mind out of the gutter, but theres zillions of pad and tampon jokes out there already, and it hasn’t even been 24 hours since Apple announced its new tablet. Its basically a giant iTouch with 3G capabilities, even though you would never ever make a phone call on that. Imagine holding that up to your ear… *giggle*. Ok so no calling capabilities, but internet calling (e.g. Skype) would work. I have just learned today that that is called VoIP, which stands for voice over internet protocol (thanks T!).

Anyways, I came across this interesting article that talks about how all this hopping onto cellphone networks is overburdening them and causing less-than-stellar service. So one must ask: Do we want excellent calling service or excellent video/streaming/internet/etc. service?

Personally, although I love how convenient texting is, I do miss the days when people knew how to hold a decent phone conversation. Or even a decent face-to-face conversation. I think that will be a lost art within a generation or two.

PS. i HATE fingerprints on screens.

  1. lol VoIP.

To me, it’s just a replacement for netbooks…

  2. the funny thing is, my uncle has had a pc tablet that works like this (minus the touch capabilities) for years.

  3. bahaha… Fujitsu has had a slate PC with all the same functions for the past while, though it’s slightly more expensive for one with multitouch capabilities…
But the iPad is just one big mistake by Apple, if they made it a tablet I’d be down for it, but now it’s just a giant iPhone without the camera/phone-ness… VoIP is nice, but meh, my netbook can do that.
